Want to get to know someone? Let them make dinner for you. Want to get to know a culture? Try all of their weirdest-sounding delicacies. Food is one of our most communal experiences, necessary to life and directly linked with our natural resources and history. We ate what we could until it became what we craved. It’s hard to explain to someone why that gooey macaroni and cheese with a crisp panko topping warms your heart as well as your stomach, or why the interwoven smells of fish sauce, coconut milk, and lemongrass bring you back to your mother’s kitchen. We don’t understand, we taste and we feel. Where language barriers and cultural differences can get in the way, food shows where we came from and what we care about. So whether it’s a plate of haggis or a bowl or maafe, take a bite. You might just find a new feeling of home.
